My name is Andrew Hairston,

I am a Black southerner and civil rights lawyer. I am running to be your Justice of the Peace because I believe deeply in social and racial justice. After a pandemic and historic Black Lives Matter protests, we know we need to change Travis County to work for all of us.

My present community involvement includes:

Deacon, Ebenezer Third Baptist Church

Co-Chair, Frontera Fund Board of Directors

Member, Austin ISD School Safety and Security Committee

Member, Democratic Socialists of America, Austin Chapter

“I see the Justice of the Peace as an empathetic protector of our neighbors and family when they’re in need.

I want to keep our children in schools and our families in their homes.”

Andrew Hairston is a civil rights attorney and writer based in Austin, TX. He has deep experience in field organizing, non-profit management, and community engagement. He is passionate about fighting for the civil rights of folks who have traditionally been passed over, especially Black people. He holds degrees from Howard University and Louisiana State University.

Born in North Carolina, raised across the South and the Midwest, he would most pointedly describe himself as a doting uncle with an unmistakable laugh. He is licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana.

There’s so much we can do together to keep our communities growing, thriving in strength, empathy, and unity. I hope you will join our cause and campaign.”
